8. King of Saxony Bird of Paradise
There are 42 species of birds part of the bird of paradise bird family, and elegantly named King of Saxony bird is one of them. They are solely found on the on the island of New Guinea. An adult bird measures to 22 cm long, with the males characterized by their long blue and brown plumes, while the females do not have such feathers on their head. Hilariously enough, when this type of bird was first introduced to Europe, many people mistakenly thought the King of Saxony bird of paradise could not possibly be real.

7. Ribbon Tailed Astrapia
Similar to the King of Saxony, the ribbon tailed astrapia is known for its two distinct incredibly long feathers, which differs of course for these being on their tail. The ribbon-tailed astrapia is also part of the bird of paradise family. They are endemic to forests in the central highlands of Papua New Guinea and is the most recently discovered bird of paradise.

6. Southern Ground Hornbill
The Southern Ground Hornbill are known for their distinct red coloring around their neck and eyes, with the rest of their bodies covered in black feathers. Females are smaller and are usually more violet blue around their necks. They are the largest known species of hornbill and can be found living the the region of Northern Namibia, Angola, southern Zimbabwe, Burundi, and Kenya. Usually nesting in large trees, they usually live in a savanna environment. Their carnivorous diets consist mostly of snails, frogs, small mammals, reptiles, and insects. The Southern Ground Hornbill is prominent in African cultures and their voices are characterized by their loud voices.

5. Victoria Crowned Pigeon
The most royal of the strange looking birds has got to be the Victoria Crowned Pigeon. Clearly, they must be known for their elaborate crests and vivid clue coloring, as well as their red eyes. They differ greatly in appearance from the more common pigeons, named after the British monarch Queen Victoria. They are native to the New Guinea region and fly from the seat to the trees on a daily basis.

Just the sight of their strange, wide mouths means you have unmistakably come across a potoo. These types of birds can be found in the region of the Americas such as every country in South America aside from Chile, parts of Mexico and Argentina, as well as the Caribbean islands of Tobago, Hispaniola, and Jamaica.

3. Magnificent Frigatebird
The Magnificent frigatebird is unique with its red gular sac that puffs up in order to attract a mate. Females are slightly larger than the male frigatebirds. But magnificent frigatebirds are the largest of the frigatebirds, usually measuring up to 45 inches in length, or 114 cm. These seabirds feed on flying fish but are also known to force other birds to regurgitate their food in order to feed themselves, a behavior known as kleptoparasitism.

The long wattled umbrella bird is one of the strangest looking birds in the world, with the males characterized by their long throat wattle that is also covered in feathers. Males of this species measure at 42 cm in height, while females are usually 37 cm at the most. They feed mostly on large fruit so don’t be too startled when you see one. They are endemic to the region of southwest of Colombia to the El Oro province in Ecuador.

While this photo might make this bird look like a strange shape from a different dimension, this male superb bird of paradise only looks like this as it tries to attract a member of the female bird of paradise. Males are the ones that come in the distinct colors of blue and turquoise while the females have brown plumage. With the female population of the superb bird of paradise has a relatively low count, males must do their best to attract mates since mating for this species is highly competitive."
