John - Chapter 11 Summary:

John chapter 11 recounts the story of the death and resurrection of Lazarus, which powerfully demonstrates Jesus' authority over life and death. When Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha, falls seriously ill, they send word to Jesus. Although Jesus loves Lazarus, He deliberately delays His visit, arriving in Bethany four days after Lazarus has died. Martha meets Him and expresses her faith in His power, and Jesus declares, "I am the resurrection and the life." Jesus weeps with Mary and the mourners, showing His compassion, and then performs the miraculous act of raising Lazarus from the dead, calling him out of the tomb. This miracle leads many to believe in Jesus, but it also intensifies the plot of the religious leaders to kill Him, as they fear His growing influence.
