Umgababa is a small coastal town located on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, roughly 36 kilometers south of Durban. While it may appear to be a rural town at first glance, Umgababa boasts a rich history and offers a relaxed beach vacation experience.

The name Umgababa is derived from the Zulu language and means "my father's wife". The Umgababa River, which enters the ocean at Umgababa, also shares this origin.

A fire in the late 1980s unfortunately damaged the town's tourism industry. However, there are ongoing efforts to revitalize Umgababa and make it a destination once again.

The beach has been awarded Blue Flag status, an internationally recognized certification that ensures the beach meets high environmental, safety and amenity standards. In addition to swimming and sunbathing, visitors can enjoy activities such as fishing, surfing, and bodyboarding.
