⭕️ TRUE CRIME [LIVE]: A California jury convicted Aaron Romo, 36, of killing his ex-girlfriend Mirelle Mateus, 24, after prosecutors say he lured her to his apartment despite a restraining order. Mateus’s mother found her daughter’s body in the bathtub. She had been badly beaten and strangled. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber spoke with the victim’s sister, Sandy Caceros, who says local law enforcement failed Mirelle and her family.

Kim Wall – a freelance journalist known for her work for VICE, the Guardian and the New York Times among others – was 30 when she was murdered after boarding a submarine in Denmark in August 2017. After an eight-month investigation, engineer Peter Madsen, the inventor of the submarine who Wall had agreed to interview, was found guilty of her murder and sentenced to life in prison. Before his conviction, the details of the police investigation were seized upon by media in Denmark and internationally, who at times appeared to paint the case as a Nordic crime story, rather than a horrific murder of a young woman doing her job.

In the timespan of just over a day, a former couple reconciled, immediately plotted a murder, and tried to carry it out, according to deputies in Lake County, Florida. Arianna Selina Gajraj, 21, lured the victim out, and the gunman, Brandon Pirela, 24, carried out an ambush, but the target managed to get away, authorities said in documents. The couple is now locked up in jail without bond for a charge each of attempted first-degree murder. An arraignment is set for April 8. Deputies said they responded to Peppermill Trail in the city of Clermont at approximately 1:53 a.m. regarding a shooting. They met with the victim. “Deputies located numerous spent cartridge casings on Peppermill Trail in the roadway and discovered the victim’s vehicle had multiple projectile strikes as well as a Massey work truck,” they wrote in the probable cause affidavit. There were 21 spent 9 mm cartridge casings on the roadway, 13 projectile strikes on the victim’s vehicle, three projectile strikes on the Massey work truck as well as one on a nearby mailbox, the affidavit said. The victim said he picked up Gajraj and that they were going to smoke and speak about certain issues regarding Pirela. "Victim described that Pirela throughout the week, has been sending threatening messages to him as Pirela was making accusations of Gajraj and Victim having a relationship,” authorities said. “Victim stated that he became nervous and asked Gajraj if Pirela had any way to track her location, to which she said he didn’t.
