Gelli was the founder of the secret society Propaganda 2 that attempted to take over Italy by enrolling politicians, journalists, businessmen and bankers in its ranks. Gelli learned in its time in the fascist Secret Service to work in the shadows. Before an incomplete list of the members was uncovered in his villa in Arezzo, Gelli succeeded in putting its trusted men in high ranks of the police, military and Secret Service, hence allowing the implementation of the tension strategy that consisted on allowing terrorist attacks by extremist groups to scare people into voting right wing parties. He is responsible of the death of many people who either challenged him (Sindona) or tried to expose him (Pecorelli).
