Episode 145: Headmaster's Homeroom w/Guest Artist; Stephanie (MidLifeArtist)

Stephanie is a multi-media artist currently residing in NW Georgia in the U.S. southeast. Having earned her BA in Studio Arts in 1994 in New Hampshire, she chose to marry and prioritize raising a family. Much of that time was spent making ends meet and focusing on her children.

Three decades after achieving her BA and turbulent life altering events with a relocation to Georgia, Stephanie stepped out of the shadows of insecurity with the unforeseen assistance of social media artist communities. For years, Stephanie was riddled with doubts about her talent and how to pursue a dream of being a successful income producing full-time artist. Additionally, perfectionism, like a dark cloud, always managed to prove too large an obstacle to overcome. Paralyzed with fear of failure, her art supplies continued to attract dust, silencing her creative voice.

In 2022, Stephanie broke free from fear and applied watercolor to paper for an artistic exercise suggested on social media. This exercise negated “perfectionism” and harsh critique by the design of its timed sequence. It became a safe recurring avenue of exploration with plenty of encouragement. In fact, it was enough to shrug off the yoke of fear and embark on what has now become her mid-life artist journey.
