A Bill to create a new state in Nigeria has passed its first reading at the House of Representatives

The bill was sponsored by Ikenga Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere and along with 15 other co-sponsors awaits a second reading. The proposed new state will be Nigeria’s 37th, called Orlu State. It will be made up of several local government areas from Imo, Abia and Anambra. The capital of the state will be based in Orlu.

Ugochinyere Michael Ikeagwuonu, also known as Ikenga Ugochinyere, is a lawyer, politician, and lawmaker. He was born on 3 August 1982 and hails from Ideato, Imo State.
