“Bridgerton” cordially invites you to the wedding of Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). Or does it?
In the trailer for Season 3 – Part 2 of the smash hit Netflix series, Colin and Pen’s engagement is the talk of the town — but Penelope’s secret identity as the gossiping Lady Whistledown grows harder to silence by the minute. While lying to Colin eats away at her, there’s also Eloise (Claudia Jessie) to contend with, who issues an ultimatum: Pen must tell Colin the truth, or Eloise will do it herself.
Season 3 – Part 1 saw Colin and Penelope rekindle their friendship while helping her find a husband, only for a kiss to reveal Colin’s true feelings to himself. In the midseason finale, he tells Pen the truth before she can be betrothed to Lord Debling (Sam Phillips), culminating in the infamous carriage scene that arguably lit the internet on fire. Along with new footage of the couple in love (MIRROR ALERT), the Part 2 trailer offers glimpses of Bridgerton siblings Francesca (Hannah Dodd), Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), and Benedict (Luke Thompson) all in the middle of their own romantic journeys. There is also a brief shot of shirtless torso — probably Colin’s, for the record.

Nicola Coughlan shared a behind-the-scenes Bridgerton photo that featured a note with "Sophie" written on it.
In her comments, Coughlan quashed rumors that Benedict Bridgerton's love interest Sophie would be featured in season 3 part 2.
This theory being put to bed doesn't necessarily mean season 4 won't feature Benedict and Sophie's love story.
A major Bridgerton season 3 part 2 fan theory has been put to bed. Every season of the Netflix Regency era romance show adapts a different novel in the book series of the same name by Julia Quinn, though not always in the same order. Although seasons 1 and 2 adapted the first two books, season 3 is adapting book 4, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which focuses on the burgeoning love between Colin (Luke Newton) and longtime Bridgerton character Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), who secretly operates as the pseudonymous gossip columnist Lady Whistledown.
An eagle-eyed fan thought they spotted a clue in a behind-the-scenes Bridgerton photo that Coughlan posted on Instagram, which features a note on a mirror that has the name "Sophie" on it. After the user commented "SOPHIE?!?," implying that the image confirmed a theory that Benedict Bridgerton's (Luke Thompson) book 3 love interest Sophie Beckett would be appearing in season 3 part 2, Coughlan responded by saying that "lolll no, that's [Sophie Burton's] makeup station!" Will Benedict And Sophie's Romance Follow Colin And Penelope's?
This Bridgerton Rumor Being Squashed Doesn't Mean It Won't Happen
Though Coughlan has denied this particular theory about season 3 part 2, that doesn't mean that Benedict and Sophie won't be the couple at the center of Bridgerton season 4. There are several important reasons why the show will most likely adapt book 3 next, though the central couple of the upcoming season has not yet been officially confirmed. The most important is the fact that adapting book 5 next would put an even bigger break in the timeline of the novels.
Bridgerton book 5, To Sir Phillip, With Love, focuses on the romance of the second-eldest Bridgerton daughter Eloise (Claudia Jessie).
While this isn't necessarily an issue given how season 3 has worked book 4 into its ongoing plot, it seems likely that this rift in the timeline was not necessarily desired but created in order to utilize Coughlan and Newton as soon as possible in case either actor decided to leave the show. Key romantic leads have departed after the end of their arcs, particularly both season 1 stars Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor. While Benedict has also been a character since season 1, Sophie has not yet joined the Bridgerton cast.
Having both characters from Romancing Mister Bridgerton stay on the show for three full seasons before adapting their story properly may have been a tall order, which may have been what necessitated moving their story forward. However, rushing through books 5 and later would require a bit more of a time jump considering the age of the younger Bridgerton siblings. Thus, it still seems most likely that Bridgerton season 4 will bring Benedict and Sophie front and center, even if the latter doesn't debut in season 3 part 2.

“Bridgerton” is raising the stakes for Penelope, with the remaining episodes of Season 3 threatening her secret identity as Lady Whistledown amid her newfound engagement.
In the Season 3 Part 2 trailer, released Monday, news of the engagement between longtime friends Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) spreads like wildfire through the town. Despite being warmly welcomed by the rest of the Bridgerton family after sharing their upcoming wedding plans, Eloise (Claudia Jessie) has her own concerns after keeping Penelope’s secret for months.
“Eloise, please do not tell him,” Penelope begs Eloise in the trailer, to which Eloise responds, “He will find out … until he knows the real you, he cannot possibly love you.”

With ink found on her hands and her whereabouts looking increasingly suspicious, it’s clear Penelope can’t keep moonlighting as the infamous gossip columnist without the knowledge of her betrothed.
More importantly, as Penelope considers her future as a wife — which her mother reminds her involves catering to Colin’s dreams — Penelope can’t help but wonder, “what about my dreams?”
“Ladies do not have dreams, they have husbands,” Lady Featherington says in the trailer.
The trailer for Part 2, which premieres June 13 on Netflix, also teases romantic moments for the other Bridgerton siblings, including Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley), as well as Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Lady Tilley Arnold (Hannah New).
