Because of their size, it is important for young gnomes to learn how to fight, shift from stone to flesh and back again. Gnomes are sent into the wilderness at a young age to fend for themselves. If an eagle sets its sights on you for its next meal, you learn to survive very quickly.
The resident gnomes at Merrihaven are, in fact, all related. Nodrik is the eldest brother and the leader. Nodrik and his brothers are a close knit family and do just about everything in a group.
