British Paras made to go through customs during D-day recreation
80 years ago today, allied forces began Operation Overlord, launching a full-scale invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe. But that was 80 years ago, and things have changed. There’s a lot more paperwork involved in invading France than you might realize.
British, Belgian and US paratroopers all took part in the recreation of landing into a D-Day drop zone, but the British paras had a somewhat more frosty reception than their allies when, after landing, they were presented with a makeshift customs gate. The British began politely queueing, as is their custom, while the French customs officials pretended not to be able to understand the British soldiers trying to speak French, as is their custom.
Well, as they say, Brexit means Brexit
