What Is A Weeping Tile? How Does It work?

In this series episode of building custom made home - the home foundation episode series we are going to delve deeper into another topic, the most important topic and the most crucial topic when it comes to basement foundation and that is understanding Weeping Tiles. Weepings tiles is the most important integral part of our basement foundation in our homes and that are responsible for 90% of the problems in our basement.

Have you ever encounter problem in your basement leaks or moisture in your basement? Most of that problem or about 90% of that problem stems from damage weeping tiles. So in this episode I am going to show you and make you what the weeping tiles are what it does and how it protects our basement foundation specially our foundation wall.

To not overcomplicate it a weeping tiles is basically comprise of rigid perforated plastic that have holes covered with socks to prevent soil to enter the weepers and potentially clog it. The black “O” ring that looks like snake rings covered with socks its main purpose is to collect water away from the foundation wall. As you know that water goes underneath the ground right down to our foundation and it stays there at the Bottom of the foundation if water are not drained out. And with the contraction and expansion during the winter time our basement foundation wall could crack.

So looking after and taking a good care of weeping tiles in our basement is the most crucial part of maintaining our basement foundation wall.
