GUEST OVERVIEW: Jon Entine is the founder and executive director of the non-profit Genetic Literacy Project (GLP). GLP was founded to challenge misinformation about innovation in human genetics—such as 'designer babies' and gene therapy—and the agricultural biotechnology revolution that has driven a 4x increase in food production over the past 75 years. Our mandate has expanded in the face of fierce attacks by environmental and social justice advocacy groups who often prioritize their ideological beliefs over the general good. In recent years, with the explosion of disinformation on science, we've extended our mandate to cover debates around climate change, global food security, the use of gene drives to eliminate killer pests like disease-carrying mosquitoes, synthetic biology, public health and vaccine hesitancy, and artificial intelligence (AI). All are under varying degrees of attack, often from both the left and the right.
