Donald Trump has joined TikTok and racked up over 4.6 million followers on the social media platform in just over two days – over 10 times more than the Biden campaign account.

The move is a U-turn after his administration tried to ban the popular app on national security grounds.

Within hours of joining, the Republican presidential candidate had attracted over two million followers.

He posted a video greeting fans at an Ultimate Fighting Championship fight in New Jersey.

Journalists and commentators reacted to Trump's new TikTok account, which quickly eclipsed President Biden's presence on the platform.

Former Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage posted on X, predicting Trump's TikTok debut will be "huge" as Gen Z is "crying out for leadership".

Trump's TikTok pivot comes shortly after he was found guilty of 34 felony counts in a New York hush-money trial.

He announced on Friday he will appeal the guilty verdict that made him the first US president convicted of a crime.
