The Dunlin : Close Up HD Footage (Calidris alpina )

The Dunlin is a small wading bird found across the UK and many other parts of the world. These little fellas are easily recognisable with their long, slightly curved beaks and striking black belly patches in the breeding season. During winter, their bellies turn a plain grey colour. Dunlins breed in coastal areas and upland moors, making nests on the ground amongst vegetation or stones. They mainly eat insects, crustaceans and worms which they find by probing in wet mud with those nifty beaks of theirs. Despite their small size, Dunlins are long-distance migrants, some flying over 5,000 miles from their Arctic breeding grounds to wintering spots like Britain.
