San Francisco officer use bean bag rounds to take down and arrest a man armed with a loaded crossbow

A suspect detained during an officer-involved shooting last week was carrying a loaded crossbow in the Bayview district, San Francisco police revealed Friday.

San Francisco police responded to reports of a man dressed in camouflage-printed clothing walking around with an AK-47 just after 3 p.m. on May 23. Upon finding him near Jennings Street and Donner Avenue, officers realized the male suspect was carrying a crossbow instead.

Body-worn camera footage released during a town hall on Friday appears to show multiple responding officers giving the suspect multiple orders to drop the weapon, with warnings that they would shoot if he didn’t comply. Within minutes of locating the suspect, two officers deployed beanbags and one officer fired his gun after the suspect began to raise both arms with the crossbow in hand.

The suspect was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries from the fired bean bags. He was not injured by gunshot, according to police.

Police located the crossbow loaded with a 15-inch bolt.

The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Yoshimar Zamora.
