The Navy SEALs and Army Rangers have become well-known and honored in recent decades because of their unbelievable feats and battles. In some cases, documentaries or movies have taken us behind the scenes and given us a glimpse of what they go through to become elite soldiers.
In the middle of the camp for Navy Seals, a large bell with a rope is placed. If any candidates cannot stand the suffering of the journey and the accompanying pain that goes with it, they can ring the bell and walk away.
Our spiritual journey can, in many ways, be likened to the same training process. As it is in the general assembly of the army and navy, it is in the spiritual Army of the Lord. In some mysterious way, we must choose to enter that Group of God's children that desires to go further than the general congregation of believers desires to go.
Tucson, that, except Jesus as their savior, it may be just their ticket to heaven. Their desire to go further is not there because they're satisfied with not going to hell.
Everything beyond that on our spiritual journey has a price tag called obedience to his purposes. It is really true that we are not our own. We have been bought at a price. Salvation, as we understand it, is entirely free and given to us by his grace. But the journey we have entered will cost us obedience, which equals pain to the old nature.
If you know the purpose the Father has placed within you, you can endure the pain of the journey ahead.
