The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has reported a significant eruption at Kanlaon Volcano, marked by a 6-minute explosive event that emitted a massive 5,000-meter tall plume. The volcano has experienced 43 volcanic earthquakes since midnight on Monday and released 797 tonnes of sulfur dioxide. Due to increased volcanic activity, the alert level has been raised from 1 to 2.

PHIVOLCS director Teresito Bacolcol discussed potential future scenarios, including phreatic eruptions or hazardous magmatic eruptions, possibly raising the alert level to 3. Evacuations have begun in several towns on Negros Island, and a "Blue Alert" has been issued for the province.
