Over 4,000 foreign participants from 97 countries are expected at the BRICS Games in Kazan, said Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko following the meeting of the organizational committee for the preparation and conduct of the BRICS Games.
"In 2024, the Russian Federation is chairing the BRICS association, and under current conditions, this platform holds priority significance for our country. The BRICS Games, held at the direction of President Vladimir Putin, are an important part of our country's chairmanship plan in the association, and 97 countries have already confirmed their participation," said Chernyshenko, whose words were cited by his office on Friday.
Deputy Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Alexei Morozov, in turn, noted that about 5,000 participants are expected at the competitions, more than 4,000 of whom are from other countries (i.e., not from Russia).
"At the direction of the Organizing Committee, the Russian Ministry of Sports has formed the final sports program based on the applications received. It includes 27 sports," said Morozov.
The BRICS Games will be held in the capital of Tatarstan from June 12 to 23.
