Con '72 - Conrad Schnitzler

This is an archived recording that sat in the vaults for 30 years before it was issued by the great qbico. this recording is a tough one to sit through, sort of like any early synth recordings, a veritable wankfest of synthesized bleeps and blurps. but don't let that fool you, this is way better than many other synthesizer albums of the period, having more of a range of sounds and feelings than most bands that did this sound, and for 1972 it's pretty impressive. still, sitting through 40+ minutes of just synth is tough for anyone but the true kraut enthusiast and avid schnitzler fans.--Soundohm

This album is an early exploration in modular synth. It has been recorded live (in the "German Institute", London, Spring 1972) but not trace of public effervescence. It was originally issued from Schnitzler's old tape recordings. Consequently it's really weird, unconventional with many improvised, unfocused effects. The electronic material is reduced to its minimum, just one machine (probably a miniMoog). The result can be perceived as a convinced essay in electronic experimentation but there's absolutely no melodies, harmonies, tonalities...it's just a collection of "noisy" electronic motifs built in a rather confusion and based on a linear process: the two tracks have no structure, seem to be endless, pointless and always made around the same range of sounds. An interesting document for original Schnitzler's fans but in order to make an excursion in a sonic electronic musical creation just go on the classic "Ballet Statique".--philippe at progarchives
