We're not saying Netflix has a new strategy to get less-often-seen leading ladies back into the spotlight in more action-packed roles than you're used to, but after the chart success of J-Lo's Atlas, it looks like Jessica Alba could be up next.

The streamer has released a trailer for Trigger Warning, an action flick starring Alba, and hitting the platform on 21 June. And it looks like a potentially fun slice of shock. Hopefully it'll be a better performer than J-Lo's Atlas, though, which netted her lowest Rotten Tomatoes score in this decade.

Alba plays a seemingly highly skilled Special Forces commando who returns home to take over her father's bar after his mysterious death. From there it clearly doesn't take long for her to sniff out a crime ring that's taken over her hometown and infiltrated the police along with local politicians.

So, what better way to deal with things than by going full Rambo? The trailer alone shows fistfighting, shooting and swordplay are all going to be in Alba's wheelhouse this time out, and it's one of those teasers that looks a lot like it maps out most of the movie's plot quite clearly.

While Atlas arrived to little praise, audiences haven't seemed to care much at all, with the movie rocketing into Netflix's top spot in a range of territories. The streamer will be hoping for more of the same with Trigger Warning – although doubtless a better score wouldn't exactly go amiss. We have high hopes, as Alba looks like a true badass in the trailer.

Judging by the sentiment in the comments under the YouTube upload of its trailer, there's every chance it'll work, too. People are thrilled to see Alba again after a good few years since the last major movie she appeared in.

One enthused viewer wrote: "Few days ago I was thinking that Jessica Alba totally disappeared and now this trailer pops up out of nowhere". Another agreed: "Jessica Alba as a vigilante? Hell yes!!". The anticipation is already palpable.
Jessica Alba is out for revenge in the first trailer for the Netflix action thriller Trigger Warning. The film, helmed by Mouly Surya, is all set to stream on the platform from June 21.

Alba made a name for herself in sci-fi series Dark Angel and such action-packed flicks as Fantastic Four and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. In 2012 she launched sustainable health and wellness brand the Honest Company, which earned her a spot on Forbes' list of America's wealthiest self-made women in 2016.

In 2021, Alba took the company public. She stepped down as its Chief Creative Officer in April 2024.

Alba's last feature film was 2019's Killers Anonymous. She has worked only sparingly since then, aside from her two-season role on L.A.'s Finest in 2019 and 2020. Of “taking a break for so long from” acting, Alba said in 2021, “it allows me to have the freedom as a storyteller to just be completely present and try things and I really love it. And it's brought me real joy.”

Trigger Warning — directed by Mouly Surya and also starring Tone Bell, Gabriel Basso, Kaiwi Lyman and Hari Dhillon — is on Netflix June 21.

Another of their big summer action movie offerings coming up soon. Jessica Alba stars as a skilled Special Forces commando who takes ownership of her father's bar after he suddenly dies, and soon finds herself at odds with a violent gang running rampant in her hometown. Unsure of who she can truly trust, Parker draws on her commando training and proves herself a force to be reckoned with as she hunts down the truth and attempts to right what has gone wrong in Swann County, with the help of her covert ops partner / hacker Spider, and the connected local dealer Mike. Jessica Alba and director Mouly Surya have opened up about their upcoming action thriller, Trigger Warning, which released its official trailer today.
Alba expresses her admiration for strong, femal characters like Ripley from the Alien franchise and Sarah Connor of Terminator fame.
Surya found it a "little surreal" working with Alba at first, praising the actress' fiery personality and straightforwardness on set.
It’s been over 20 years since Jessica Alba first suited up as the genetically enhanced Max Guevara on television's science fiction drama Dark Angel. And while the Golden Globe-nominee admittedly hasn’t done a ton of choreographed fight sequences since, the actress is ready for the challenge in her upcoming Netflix project, Trigger Warning. However, the action thriller did test its star's mettle when it comes to pulling off those larger-than-life on-screen brawls. Alba said in an interview with Tudum:

I haven’t really done hand-to-hand combat and intense action in such a long time. For me, I really wanted it to be a more intimate kind of fighting experience if I needed to take somebody out.

First-Look Images, Jessica Alba Reveals Admiration for Ripley & Sarah Connor

Following her time on the TV show Dark Angel, Jessica Alba made a number of her best movies, including Into the Blue, Fantastic Four and Honey. And while the actress hasn’t played a physical role quite like the one she portrays in Netflix’s Trigger Warning for quite some time, Alba is a huge fan of powerful, female characters — not unlike Dark Angel’s protagonist, Max. Alba said in the same discussion with Tudum:

I loved Luc Besson’s La Femme Nikita. I also loved Ripley [Alien franchise], and I love Sarah Connor in Terminator.

In a recent interview, Jessica Alba discussed the film industry's lack of diversity.
In the summer of 2021, Alba revealed that she was about to begin filming Netflix’s Trigger Warning. So, it's taken nearly three years for the action thriller to come to fruition. And for director Mouly Surya, meeting Alba for the very first time turned out to be a “little surreal.” Surya told Tudum:

“It was a little surreal. We talked for an hour or so, and it was totally unexpected talking with your teenage idol basically out of nowhere. At first, I didn’t know how to act around her. But then slowly you start to see actors as [people]. Jessica is very fiery, and also she’s straight up. She will tell you exactly what she thinks, and I love that about her.”

Alba also serves as an executive producer on the project. Jeanette Volturno, Jason Clark, Jonathan Fuhrman, Daniel Jason Heffner, John Brancato and Josh Olson are also EPs for the film. Trigger Warning co-stars Anthony Michael Hall, Mark Webber, Tone Bell, Jake Weary and Gabriel Basso.
