There are humans that have never been as excited for a solid Conga Line the way this dog is when he joins his family in their Conga line. Just look at him when he runs over to get in the line. He literally jumps in the air! If he was human you could practically see this dog clapping his heels together. To be honest, I don’t think anyone, human or dog, has ever been THIS thrilled to join a Conga line. We probably just roll our eyes.

I love this dog’s enthusiasm. It is actually a little inspiring. This video actually made us a little bit curious about where the conga line comes from. We all know about the dance and we all know that it has Latin influences but I doubt many of us actually know where it comes from. So, we took a few moments and looked it up. The conga line is derived from a Cuban carnival dance of the same name. It became popular in the United States starting in the 1930s with another boom in the 1950s. It is believed that the origins of the dance came from African slaves brought to the West Indies.

It became a popular street dance in Cuba and was used by politicians to appeal to voters. It went through periods of being legal or illegal depending on which dictator or president was in charge of Cuba. The line dance is different from traditional Cuban dances because it is played in a more staccato beat with a stiffer movement. It became popular in the US due to Hollywood movies considered “Latin” musicals like Too Many Girls (starring Desi Arnaz) and the film It Started With Eve. It also gained popularity in New York Cuban night clubs, especially at the La Conga nightclub which opened 1929.
