Roman Candle Canine: Dachshund Steals Firework And Shoots It At People

Over the years, America’s Funniest Home Videos has had a number of submitted clips go really viral. This is one of the oldest ones to really pop off on the internet. It stars a little dachshund dog who decides that he wants to go get a Roman Candle that is shooting off in the yard. Unfortunately, when he does, the firework is still going off and shooting everywhere. Dogs, kids, and an older man have to dodge the little dog as he sprints around the yard until the firework stops shooting.

You may have seen this one before. It is pretty funny. One of the things that really makes this video funny and interesting is that in general dogs do not like fireworks. Most of us know this is because of the sound that fireworks make. The loud noises from the booms to the screeches scare dogs who have much stronger hearing than humans. Also, some dogs are sensitive to the burning and sulfur smell that fireworks release especially after they are done shooting. Part of it is also that dogs don’t inherently understand what fireworks are.

So, dogs get surprised and startled by fireworks in the same way that we would if a loud noise caught us off guard. We did read that some dogs are unafraid of fireworks because they were exposed to loud noises or fireworks when they were puppies. This means that they do not view fireworks as a threat. Which you can definitely see in this brazen pup when he steals the roman candle. That said, if your dog is afraid of fireworks thundershirts can help keep them calm. Most important, it is important for you to stay calm as well. Dogs look at people as authorities and if we are calm they will be calmer or at least reassured.
