PANAMA CITY, FL - (May 27, 2024) – Under a clear sky at the Kent Forest Lawn Cemetery, the city hosted a heartfelt Memorial Day commemoration drawing a crowd of local residents, veterans, and dignitaries. The ceremony, beginning at 10am, paid tribute to the brave men and women who fought for our country.
The event began with the presentation of the colors by the Color Guard of A. Crawford Mosley High School, setting a respectful tone. Colonel Chris Bergtholdt, Commander of the 325th Operations Group at Tyndall Air Force Base, delivered the keynote address. He emphasized the importance of the day, and that as Americans, we need to remember the real reasons why Memorial Day is celebrated.
A special highlight was the presence of World War II veteran Daniel H. Wagner. At a cool 94 years old, Mr. Wagner served in the Army Air Corps from 1946 to 1952 and in the reserves from 1955 to 1973. His life is exemplary of the many others like him who sacrificed so much for our country, showcasing the bravery and resilience of America's greatest generation.
The ceremony culminated at 1pm with a flyover accompanied by the sounds of the Panama City Pipes & Drums. The flyover, a tribute to fallen soldiers, combined with the stirring music invoked reverence in the crowd.
This Memorial Day commemoration was more than just your ordinary ceremony; it was a powerful reminder of the meaning of this special day, and the sacrifices made by countless individuals to achieve freedom and peace. Attendees left with a renewed sense of patriotism and a deeper appreciation for the heroes that fought for our beautiful country.
