President Biden has set out a peace proposal andceasefire offer from Israel that he said could end theb war in Gaza.

Mr Biden urged both Hamas and Israel's leaders toaccept the deal, saying those in Israel who wanted"indefinite war" must change their minds.

He outlined a three-phase proposal, that would beginwith an immediate six week ceasefire. At the sametime, Israeli forces would carry out a withdrawal fromGaza. Israeli hostages in Gaza would be exchangedfor Palestinian prisoners and 600 trucks ofhumanitarian aid would be delivered there each day.

In the second phase, Hamas and Israel wouldnegotiate a permanent end to hostilities. The finalphase would include a major reconstruction operationin Gaza, with international support.
