Saint John of Kronstadt (1829-1908) was a Russian Orthodox priest and archpriest who served in Kronstadt, Russia. He is known for his remarkable spiritual life, his dedication to serving the poor and needy, and his gift of miracle-working.

Early Life and Ministry
Born Ivan Ilyich Sergiyev on October 19, 1829, in Sura, Russia, John was the son of poor peasant folk. Despite his humble beginnings, his parents took great pains to educate him both spiritually and temporally. He was ordained as a priest in 1855 and served in various parishes before being appointed as priest in the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Kronstadt.

Spiritual Life and Ministry
Saint John of Kronstadt was known for his extraordinary spiritual life, characterized by intense prayer, fasting, and self-denial. He spent long hours in prayer, often standing for hours on end, and was known for his ability to spend hours in contemplation. Saint John of Kronstadt was also known for his gift of miracle-working. He was said to have performed numerous miracles, including healing the sick, raising the dead, and providing for the needs of those who came to him in faith. Canonization
Saint John of Kronstadt was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad in 1964 and by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1990. He is venerated as a saint in the Eastern Orthodox Church and is celebrated on December 20, the day of his repose.
