DNC to virtually nominate Biden and Harris to bypass Ohio ballot issues

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has confirmed plans to virtually certify President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party nominees before Ohio’s Aug. 7 ballot certification deadline and ahead of the in-person convention starting Aug. 19.

This decision, while ensuring timely nomination, departs from the traditional celebratory atmosphere of the convention where the official nomination typically takes place.

Despite the virtual proceedings, the DNC will organize in-person ceremonial events during the convention week in Chicago.

The move comes amidst a special session of the Ohio Senate addressing Biden’s appearance on the state’s ballot, a matter complicated by partisan issues related to campaign finance.

DNC Chair Jamie Harrison emphasized Democrats’ commitment to resolving the conflict internally and ensuring Biden’s presence on the ballot nationwide, ABC News reported.
