Israeli ground troops are reported to have advancedinto the heart of the southern Gazan city of Rafah.

Journalists and witnesses there say Israeli tanks haveseized control of a key roundabout in the centre of the city.

The Israeli military has said it is investigating thepossibility that weapons stored in a nearby compoundcaught fire after an Israeli air strike in Rafah onSunday, triggering a blaze in a tent camp for displacedPalestinians that killed dozens of people.

Meanwhile, the Hamas-run health ministry has said 21people were killed and 64 injured in a displacedpersons camp in Rafah on Tuesday amid continuingIsraeli shelling. Israel's military has denied carrying outa strike on the area.
