It's a piece being sung by a character in a musical who is a roughneck bartender who's noticing a fast decline in friends who come for a pint because they're dying at the barricades in the French revolution.

He's not supposed to be a good singer. That's not his character. He's an uneducated, roughneck commoner.

I made it about something else entirely.
