Crossing the Highlands Pass to Reach Betty’s Bay! S1 – Ep 125

What a beautiful surprise when we started crossing the Highlands Pass after leaving Elgin. The views from the top overlooking the Elgin Basin were absolutely breathtaking. The gravel road itself was in a great condition. Then on the R44, just on the other side of Kleinmond we decided to take a drive into the Kogelberg Nature Reserve. What a stunning place to visit. It has been kept pristine and wild. Kogelberg was South Africa’s first registered Biosphere Reserve. Then we took the road to Betty’s Bay and walked through the Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens, which consist of 10 hectares of cultivated gardens. We unfortunately could not take the trails up the mountains but the gardens at the bottom are absolutely amazing. We were so glad we decided to stop here. From the Botanical Gardens we took a drive to the beach and then we went to Stony Point Nature Reserve where the penguin colony is. There were many Rock Hyrax, more commonly known as the Dassie, sitting in the sun on rocks. Something very interesting is that the colony is at the old Waaygat Whaling Station, which was used in the early to mid-1900s. Then it was time to go to our accommodation at Mountain Dew Guest Rooms. The view was spectacular and the room was fantastic. We had a wonderful overnight stay here. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #highlandspass #botanicalgardens #bettysbay #mountaindew #penguin #stonypoint
