Firefighters responding to 150-acre ‘human-caused’ wildfire in southwest Las Vegas

A wildfire, named the “Bird Springs Wildfire,” was reported Monday afternoon in a rural area southwest of the Las Vegas valley.

Burning around 150 acres in the Mountain Springs area near Pahrump Valley Highway, the fire is currently 15 percent contained.

Located seven miles east of Mountain Springs along State Route 160, within the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, the fire is burning in desert tortoise habitat.

Firefighters are actively working to suppress the fire using hand tools, fire engines, and Single Engine Air Tankers, supported by an air attack module and additional personnel.

The Great Basin Coordination Center reported the fire around 11:40 a.m. and noted it is believed to be human-caused, currently under investigation, Fox 5 Vegas reported.
