Nissan preps for next-gen LEAF EV production, but ‘a real challenge’ awaits
Nissan is gearing up to start production of the next-gen LEAF, with trials expected to begin in August and production as early as March 2025.
However, the company faces challenges at its Sunderland plant,
including competition slowing sales and the need for significant investments in new technology and machinery.
Alan Johnson, Nissan's vice president, highlighted challenges such as
high energy costs and the lack of solid policies and regional supply chain difficulties in the UK.
To combat higher energy costs, Nissan is increasing renewable energy use at the plant, aiming to reach 100% renewable energy use.
The next-gen LEAF is expected to feature a radical design upgrade and pack 25% more range, making it more competitive in the market.
With the next-gen LEAF's debut in sight and the success of Nissan's electric SUV, the Ariya, the company expects the momentum to continue.
What do you think? Will Nissan's new LEAF revive sales? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
