2024 The Year of Tokenized Real World Assets

Recent blockchain advancements improved transaction efficiency, security, and scalability. Layer-2 solutions like zero-knowledge proofs boosted throughput and lowered fees. Cross-chain communication projects enhanced usability. New services like Maple and Centrifuge brought DeFi concepts to traditional finance.

The total value of RWAs in DeFi doubled so far in 2024. Tokenized Treasuries, like the Ondo Short-Term US Government Bond Fund, emerged as a key driver. Investors were likely drawn to riskless debt due to rising interest rates and collapsing yields in DeFi.

The Future of RWAs

Regulation and infrastructure development remain challenges. However, broader RWA adoption is expected in 2024. Tokenized Treasuries are poised to benefit most. Stablecoins are also evolving, with competition from USDe, Ripple, and potentially new gold-backed options.
