KINGDOM OF THE SWORDS

This film, known as KING DANIEL in Ukraine, depicts the struggle for power between King Daniel and the nobles. In the era of the Crusades and the Golden Horde, a power emerged in East Central Europe that could not be ignored. Prince Roman the Great united the Galicia and western Ukraine. The Teutonic knights called it the Principality of Ruthenia. At the height of his reign Roman was killed in an ambush. The Boyars seized this opportunity to divide the power amongst themselves. Yefrosinia, the prince Roman's wife, daughter to the Emperor of Constantinople,used her influence to save her children. Ruthenian lands drowned in the bloodshed of internecine war until the Prince's sons, Danylo and Vasylko, stepped forward and reclaimed their father's legacy.
