This video is why we always wear belts cinched tight! Unfortunately, for the grandfather in this clip, his belt was not tight enough. We were not familiar with the language being spoken in the video, can you identify it? BUT it appears that the woman and the teenager with her are trying to teach the grandfather how to jump rope. Other than him losing his pants, he seems to have a knack for it. And the woman and teen give him a pretty fast spin on the rope. They are really cranking it!

Actively trying to skip rope or jump rope is surprisingly hard, and unbeknownst to us surprisingly healthy. Obviously, any type of aerobic activity is healthy, but we just did not know how healthy jumping rope could be. One article we read said that five minutes of jumping rope is that same as running an eight minute mile. A solid 20 minutes can work off all the calories from a candy bar. Apparently, many physical trainers promote jumping rope as a good way to burn fat. We may have to start jumping rope for own good!

Briefly, we tried to find some history on jump ropes but it is a little vague. There are reports that date jump rope to ancient China. At the same time, Western jump roping is said to have originated in Egypt as far back as 1600 B.C. Though the North American idea of jump roping was spread from Dutch settlers. It is possibly where the jumping game, “Double Dutch” game from. If you don’t remember Double Dutch involves two people holding two ropes and spinning them in opposite directions. The third person, or jumper, then jumps into the rope maelstrom.
