With news of Netflix ordering a second season for Wednesday, comes more questions. So far, the invincible child of woe has been, hunted, haunted, almost killed, and tortured in ways that she certainly enjoyed but was a wringer for us nevertheless. And now that her story is about to continue, things seem to be looking upward and onward for the star Goth at Nevermore Academy. But what’s going to happen next? Who will return and who won’t? All in good time. Meanwhile, here’s a look at what this hit teen drama did to the global audience.

Based on the eponymous character created by Charles Addams, the Netflix original series is co-directed by Tim Burton, who’s also one of the executive producers on the show. And, if Jenna Ortega was already popular, her role as Wednesday Addams has made her a global sensation, both offline and online. Wednesday premiered on November 16, 2022, on Netflix, and if you haven’t had a chance to explore the dark escapades of the teenage daughter of Morticia and Gomez Addams and her “acquaintances” at the Nevermore Academy, then you are really missing some seriously good content. The first season is currently streaming on Netflix and recently was nominated in the Outstanding Comedy Series category for the 2023 Emmy Awards. While we don’t have all the details of the upcoming second season, check out everything we know about Wednesday Season 2 in the guide below.

Watch the clip in the player above and stay tuned for the latest teaser or trailer, which will be added here as and when they are released.

During Netflix's TUDUM event, Wednesday's cast talked about their favorite fan theories. The video above is fun clip highlighting the fandom and how they embraced the series, giving it a life of its own.

Who Could Return In the Wednesday Season 2 Cast?

The showrunners of Wednesday have put together an ensemble cast for the series, featuring some of the biggest names in Hollywood. The star-studded cast, headlined by Jenna Ortega, includes, but is not limited to Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, Gwendoline Christie, Jamie McShane, Fred Armisen, and Christina Ricci in major roles.

Percy Hynes White, Jamie McShane, and Naomi J. Ogawa will not return in the show's second season, but new characters will replace them. Steve Buscemi, Thandiwe Newton, and Christopher Lloyd are joining the series as new characters.

Netflix released a behind-the-scenes look at Wednesday as the series begins production.

Netflix’s Wednesday is created and written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, with April Blair and Kayla Alpert co-writing. Both Gough and Millar are recognized producers, writers, and showrunners, who are best known for writing for films like Shanghai Noon, Shanghai Knights, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and co-writing Spider-Man 2. The duo also created and produced the series Smallville, Into the Badlands, and The Shannara Chronicles.

Tim Burton serves as one of the executive producers on the show, along with Gough, Millar, Alpert, Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, Gail Berman, Jonathan Glickman, Tommy Harper, Kevin Lafferty, and Kevin Miserocchi. The creator of iconic, modern classics like Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Alice in Wonderland, among many others, Burton directs the first four of the eight episodes of the first season of Wednesday and is expected to return for the second season in a similar capacity. Directors James Marshall and Gandja Monteiro also worked on Season 1. Wednesday herself, Jenna Ortega, confirmed that she will also be a producer in the second season. The star said,

I feel really, really fortunate to be coming on as a producer this time around... I’ve had experiences in TV where I felt my voice wasn’t heard, that I was meant to be a puppet. I’ve been told on sets, “You wouldn’t know because you’re not a writer,” or, “Just shut up and do your job.” From 12 years old, I’ve been hearing things like that. So, I went into Wednesday with hesitance. But I was fortunate to be working with someone like Tim Burton, who pulled me in his trailer one day and said that he wanted to be a soundboard for my voice.

What Could the Story of Wednesday Season 2 Be About?

Wednesday’s plot takes from the original Addams Family story and is weaved into a murder mystery, making it a gothic noir-style whodunit. The entire first season explores a teenage Wednesday’s character and personality and how she slowly graduates from a closed-off, highly self-involved adolescent to warming up to friendship and love and helping her friends uncover a stalker and monster called a Hyde (yes, like the Robert Louis Stevenson story). We'll keep spoilers out of it as much as possible but here's how the first season sets up Season 2:

In the finale of the first season, the Hyde is caught but it looks like he will most likely escape from police custody. However, a stalker makes themselves known, which is evident from some creepy text messages sent to Wednesday as she is departing the school. While she had thought discovering the Hyde was the end of all troubles, which is paralleled in the novel that she’s been writing since the beginning of the series, she realizes it’s all just beginning.

Wednesday Season 2 is expected to have a two-year time jump from the events of the first season (which would allow for the time it takes to finish production). We are also hoping that in the new season, her family, particularly Morticia and Gomez will get more exposure, which will also help us understand Wednesday’s background better. In an interview about what to expect in the second season, the showrunners elaborate saying:

“We wanna sort of explore and sort of complicate all of those relationships going forward. The school was closed when they left, which gave us the most possibilities for season two, and I think that’s something that we’re excited to explore. For us, the show also is really about this female friendship, with Wednesday and Enid really being at the center of that. The fact that they really connected with audiences, it has been really gratifying. So, we’re excited to explore now that Wednesday’s dipped her toe into the friendship pool, what’s that gonna look like? It’s like, she hugged. That was her big arc for the season, right? So it’s like now, we do that. Then, the other thing that’s really interesting is to continue to explore the Wednesday-Morticia mother-daughter relationship as well, which now that Morticia knows about the power, it has given her sort of an idea of how that’s going to go. How is their relationship going to evolve?”

The show's stars have also talked about what they would like to see in the second season, with Emma Myers suggesting that Wednesday could use a "season of singleness":

“Anything is possible in the show. We haven’t really spoken about direction at all, so I don’t really know what the game plan is for anything. As far as love interests go for Wednesday, I feel like at least for a second season, she needs to take her season of singleness. She just had a whole fiasco with her men, she’s got to lay it off for a little bit. I would be deterred from dating anybody if I had gone through that.”

Jenna Ortega has also talked about what she would personally like the next season to be like saying:

We just started the writers room. I think we want to up the horror aspect a little bit and then get Wednesday out of the romantic situation, let her be her own individual and fight her own crimes.

Ortega has since followed up and confirmed that the series is leaving the teen romance in the past, and will instead focus more on horror:

We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously. We’re ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great.

With all that in mind, it looks like Wednesday Season 2 will take everything we loved about Season 1 and amp it all up to eleven. And there's no telling just where it could all go before we reach the end. Stay tuned for more!
Jenna Ortega, best known for her role as Wednesday Addams, has been nominated for an Emmy, fueling anticipation for the upcoming second season of Wednesday. While Season 2 production is expected to begin soon, it is dependent on the outcome of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike and the potential Screen Actors Guild (SAG) strike.

wednesday wednesday wednesday

Jenna Ortega's Emmy nomination and return as Wednesday Addams have fueled anticipation for the show's upcoming second season. During TUDUM 2023, a Season 2 teaser was released, giving fans a taste of what's to come. According to reports, Jenna Ortega confirmed her involvement in Season 2 and revealed that production is currently in its early stages. In addition, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas revealed that Wednesday Season 2 will begin filming in the autumn. Christopher Lloyd hinted at a possible appearance in the new season in an interview with Yahoo. These updates show that work is being done to make Wednesday Season 2 a reality.
While fans eagerly await the release of Wednesday Season 2, it is unlikely to happen before 2023. From the end of production to the release on Netflix, the first season took about eight months. Season 2 production has yet to begin, so the wait for the new season is expected to last until 2024. Furthermore, the ongoing WGA strike and the possibility of a SAG strike may cause further delays in the production and release of Wednesday Season 2. The outcome of these negotiations will have a significant impact on the timeline, so the exact release date is currently unknown.

As Wednesday Season 2 approaches, fans can expect additional updates and announcements as production progresses. With Jenna Ortega as both the lead actress and producer, the new season of the beloved series promises to bring more horror and character development. However, due to potential strikes and other factors, Wednesday Season 2's release date may be pushed back until 2024.
Warning: This article contains Wednesday season one spoilers.

Wednesday officially 'won' December 2022 for us (sorry, Father Christmas), thanks to the character’s goth-inspired looks, scene-stealing dance choreography and deadpan humour. So, is it any surprise fans of the hit Netflix show have been left wanting more?

Following Christina Ricci’s ground-breaking portrayal of the Addams Family’s eldest child, Wednesday, in the 1990s film franchise, actor Jenna Ortega has taken the raven-haired, pigtail-wearing character to a new level for a modern-day audience on Netflix, from serving Givenchy and Rick Owens-inspired monochrome glamour, to Agatha Christie-style detective skills on the teen's quest to find out who is killing Jericho’s residents.

Following the first season’s plot twist in its finale, fans have been left guessing who that text was from and whether there will be a season two of the show.

Here’s everything you need to know about Wednesday season 2:

Firstly, has Wednesday season 2 been confirmed?
Wednesday has indeed been confirmed for season two. The news was officially confirmed by Netflix's official Twitter on January 6, 2023.

'We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky, spooky world of Nevermore,' co-show-runners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough told Tudum.

The series' main character, Ortega also confirmed the news by sharing Netflix's Tweet, and adding: 'Thanks to everyone who made this upcoming season possible. This has all been pretty surreal'

Earlier this year, the Netflix Twitter account had tweeted the final scene in Wednesday season one, which sees Ortega's character typing 'The End?' on her typewriter. The streaming platform's account captioned the post: '???????'

In an interview with Screen Rant, the series’ co-creator Alfred Gough discussed the possibility of expanding the Wednesday universe. ‘Miles (Millar, his fellow creator) and I are talking amongst ourselves about it. There's definitely more that you can explore in the world of the Addamses,’ he said.

‘It’s encouraging and exciting to see how much engagement there is,’ Netflix's Head of US & Canada scripted series Peter Friedlander told Variety. 'How much people want to not only come to Netflix, but to finish these shows and then talk about them.'

Referring to the success of Ortega's dance to Lady Gaga's 'Bloody Mary', which has taken TikTok by storm, he added: 'Engagement. That’s what we’re pouring all of our efforts into.

NETFLIX
‘It’s not just the dance, it’s people dressing up and buying make-up and wanting to look like Wednesday Addams. The resurgence, for me, it’s something that’s been in the culture for a long time — but never this pronounced. It’s something that we want to study and understand why this is such a phenomenon.’

Meanwhile, Friedlander kept his cards closer to his chest, noting: ‘I have nothing to confirm at this time. I am optimistic about Wednesday. We’ll leave it at that.’

Who will star in Wednesday season 2?
We can’t imagine Wednesday without Ortega, or her right-hand (pardon the pun) man, Thing, played by Victor Dorobant. Luckily for us, they're both confirmed to return alongside Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomaz Addams, Hunter Doohan as Tyler and Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay.

In April 2024, Variety revealed that Westworld actor Thandiwe Newton would also be joining the cast of Wednesday season two. Newton will be joined by fellow British actors, Joanna Lumley and Billie Piper, in the second season.

Piper will be taking on the recurring role of Capri, Lumley will play Grandmama, Wednesday and Pugsley's grandmother, and Newton will guest star as Dr. Fairburn.

Christina Ricci, who played Ms Thornhill in Wednesday, is unlikely to return following her failed ‘mission’ in season one, as is Gwendoline Christie's character, Larissa Weems, following her... demise.

However, we're not completely losing hope of a potential Ricci return – particularly following her recent comments at the Yellowjackets season two premiere. Speaking on the red carpet with Entertainment Tonight, the actor hinted at a possible return for Wednesday season two – saying 'on my end, the door is open' if the show wants to bring her back.

When pushed for details, Ricci kept things vague: 'I don't think I'm allowed to say,' she told reporters, before gushing about her role in the first season. 'She was so fun to play!' said Ricci. 'It's always so fun to play a villain.'

In a video shared at Netflix’s Tudum 2023 event on June 18, Ortega, Doohan, Myers, teased that a new member of the Addams Family will be joining as part of season two, which sent the rumour mill into overdrive.

While Doohan added they ‘don’t know who’ will be joining them, Ortega suggested Cousin Itt while Doohan and Sunday agreed that Grandmama could be a good choice.

Other theories included the possibility of Principal Weems actually being alive (and disguising herself as Lurch), whether one of the characters acquired Crackstone's ring and inherited the villain's powers, and the chance that Wednesday is now in control of the Hyde's powers.

What will the Wednesday season two plot be?
We imagine the second season will follow on from the nail-biting end in the first season, which saw Wednesday learn that her 'boyfriend' Tyler was the monster who was being controlled by ‘normie’ Ms Thornhill.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Doohan suggested we might not have seen the end of his character, Tyler.

‘I do think he escaped at the end,’ he said of the season one finale. ‘When I read that on the page, I was so excited. I was like: “Come on, don't be dead, don't be dead”.

‘I think he was being controlled by Miss Thornhill,’ he continued. ‘Then he had to go manipulate Wednesday to carry out their plan and I think he did a pretty good job with it.'

Speaking recently on The Tonight Show, Ortega also opened up about what she'd like to see happen in season two. 'We just started getting a writers' room together and talking about it,' she said. 'I think we want to up the horror aspects a little bit and get Wednesday out of the romantic situation and just let her be her own individual and fight her own crime.'

During her Variety Actors on Actors segment in June 2023, she provided an update on the season two plot. 'It’s still coming together, but we’ve decided we want to lean into the horror more. We’re ditching any romantic love interest, which is really great. We’re going to get bolder, more dark,' she explained.

The Wednesday star also told Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast what she hopes doesn't get repeated in season two. 'I don't think I've ever had to put my foot down on a set in the way that I had to on Wednesday because it's so easy to fall into that category, especially with this type of show,' explained Ortega. 'Everything that she does, everything that I had to play, did not make sense for her character at all. Her being in a love triangle made no sense.'

The Tim Burton-produced, deliciously droll Netflix mystery starring Jenna Ortega as the titular snarky, pigtailed, cello-playing budding sociopath will be heading back to the streamer with a second season. Here’s everything we know so far.

Will the cast of Wednesday return for Season 2?
Yes, the cast members who survived season one—Hunter Doohan (Tyler Galpin), Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair), Joy Sunday (Bianca Barclay), Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams), Luis Guzmán (Gomez Addams), and Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester), alongside Ortega’s Wednesday Addams—will all be returning. Percy Hynes White’s Xavier Thorpe, however, will not—last year, the actor faced allegations of sexual misconduct, which he denied. (In response to the news that he would not be back, he posted an image of the season two cast on Instagram, writing: “I had so much fun working on this show. I can’t wait to watch season two. Much love.”)

Meanwhile, the fates of those who perished the last time around is less certain. These include—spoiler alert—Riki Lindhome’s Dr. Valerie Kinbott, Wednesday’s court-ordered therapist, who was mauled by the Hyde. It’s unlikely that she’ll return for season two, though, of course, nothing is impossible at Nevermore.

Then there’s Gwendoline Christie’s school principal Larissa Weems, who was killed by Christina Ricci’s Laurel Gates. Speaking to Digital Spy back in 2022, Christie said of her character: “We haven’t seen her put in the ground, have we? I feel like Larissa Weems would not really be prepared to entertain or be dominated by anything as commonplace as death.” However, it’s also possible that she won’t be back for the next installment.

And as for Gates herself? Her return seems to be the most likely. Yes, she was defeated by a swarm of bees and then received a kicking from Wednesday at the end of the last season, but her death was never confirmed. As a result, it’s possible that she was hospitalised and then imprisoned for murder. When asked by Entertainment Tonight about her future on Wednesday last spring, Ricci replied: “I don’t think I’m allowed to say. On my end, the door is open. She was so fun to play! It’s always so fun to play a villain.” Watch this space.

Who’s joining the cast of Wednesday for Season 2?
Thrillingly, there will be plenty of new blood, too: in April, it was announced that both Thandiwe Newton and Steve Buscemi had joined the cast for the second installment. While character details are scarce, sources have reportedly told Variety that the latter will take the part of Nevermore’s new principal. Also joining them? Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, and Noah Taylor, all as new series regulars, while the likes of Joanna Lumley, Christopher Lloyd, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, and Joonas Suotamo will appear as guest stars. In a teaser showing Thing delivering Season 2’s scripts to cast members, it was also revealed that Lumley would be playing the Addams family’s matriarch, “Grandmama.”

What will be the plot of Wednesday Season 2?
The plot of Season 2 is under wraps, though Ortega has revealed that the next season will be “more episodic,” with each installment functioning almost like a standalone film, as well as leaning into horror a little bit more. “We’re definitely expanding on the supernatural world,” she told Vanity Fair in February 2024. “Our show had all sorts of werewolves and vampires… and I think we expand on that a little bit. In the first season, we had episodes that really stood out visually—like the dance episode was a really big one for people, and that setting was very particular and it felt like prom night, a little bit, or Carrie. Every episode [of Season 2] that I’ve read so far is like that. It just stands out on its own as a very memorable scene or bit or setting, which I think is what I’m most excited for, because to pull that off for eight episodes is, I think, really incredible and really lucky.”

Beyond the bigger picture, the actor has also expressed her approval of where Wednesday’s individual storyline will be going in Season 2. “We’re ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great,” she said on her episode of Variety’s Actors on Actors in 2023. (On the Armchair Expert podcast, the actor had previously said of her character: “Her being in a love triangle? It made no sense.”) Less time zipping between love interests will hopefully mean more time to solve the mystery of the creepy texter who begins sending her cryptic, threatening messages in the final moments of Season 1.

When will Wednesday season 2 be released?
Considering that production for Season 2 was delayed as a result of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, and is due to kick off in late April 2024, it’s unlikely that Wednesday will return to the streamer before 2025.

Is there a Wednesday spin-off in the works?
Yes, a Wednesday spin-off is already in early development at Netflix, and it’ll center on Fred Armisen’s Uncle Fester. Expect more news in the coming months.

How should I entertain myself until Wednesday Season 2 premieres?
Rewatch the first season, and then start counting down to the release of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice on September 6, Tim Burton’s long-awaited sequel to the 1988 cult classic Beetlejuice, which also stars Ortega opposite returning favorites Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, and Michael Keaton.
It feels like every week now we are getting another mammoth update from the set of Netflix's Wednesday. And this week, the news is that the full cast and crew are officially on set and in production in Ireland.
It's little wonder the show is still garnering so much traction (and big new cast names), considering the Tim Burton and Jenna Ortega-led first season hit dizzying viral heights on the internet (I don't think any of us have forgotten just yet about that prom scene dance that saw The Cramps' Goo Goo Muck soar up to the number one spot on the Billboard charts, or the subsequent resurgence of 'goth girl' aesthetics in the fashion world).

While we still have a little while to wait before we can binge season 2, we're doing our best to keep you up to date with everything we know so far, below...

Who is cast in Wednesday Season 2?
Of course, it wouldn't be Wednesday without Jenna Ortega reprising her titular role. And Netflix have just today reconfirmed the return of Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Hunter Doohan, Victor Dorobantu, Moosa Mostafa, and Georgie Farmer, as well as Fred Armisen and Jamie McShane in guest roles.

But we've also just heard confirmation of a few extra special names that are joining the cast list for the second season.

Thandie Newton is joining the call sheet – although her exact character details are being kept under wraps. And Newton's casting announcement came just days after Fargo, Reservoir Dogs, and The Big Lebowski star Steve Buscemi was announced to be attached to the show's second season.

Again, while exact character details are being kept tightly under wraps, but its rumoured that Buscemi could portray Nevermore Academy's new principal (despite Gwendoline Christie, it seems, teasing her character's return from *spoiler* beyond the grave. Having said in an interview, "We haven’t seen her put in the ground, have we?").

Noticeably absent from Netflix's confirmed casting announcement is Percy Hynes White, who starred in Season 1 as Xavier Thorpe.

Netflix unveiled the seasons' guest star lineup that includes Back to the Future's Christopher Lloyd, Absolutely Fabulous's Joanna Lumley, Sixth Sense's Haley Joel Osment and Scream's Heather Matarazzo.

What can we expect from Season 2?
In the teaser released, cast members confirmed a fan theory that a new Addams family member would be joining the storyline for the next season – exactly who that might be is still up for debate.

Jenna Ortega also revealed she would be co-producing this next season, saying in a recent Variety 'Actors On Actors' interview with Elle Fanning that “We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more. Because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously.”

When is Wednesday Season 2 being released?
Wednesday's second season production was delayed due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but the Burton x Ortega duo are also amidst filming for Beetlejuice 2, so we can only assume that Wednesday has potentially finished filming. We think we're likely to catch the second season on Netflix in mid-to-late 2024.

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the follow-up to the 1988 comedy-horror classic. Michael Keaton returns as the foul-mouthed, shape-shifting ghoul joined by new cast members Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci and Justin Theroux. Also reprising their roles from the original film are Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara.

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” sees the Deetz clan move back into their Winter River home after a sudden death in the family. When Lydia’s (Ryder) rebellious teen daughter Astrid (Ortega) discovers a portal to the afterlife hidden in the basement, the name of the mischievous spirit Beetlejuice is inevitably repeated three times, inviting him to wreak havoc in the Deetz family home once again.

“The living, the dead… can they coexist? That’s what we’re here to find out,” Ryder’s Lydia says in the trailer.

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is the latest horror title to star scream queen Ortega, who has made a name for herself as a genre staple. She previously starred in the Netflix original series “Wednesday” as the titular Addams’ family member as well as Ti West’s “X” and two installments of the rebooted “Scream” franchise. However, it was recently announced that Ortega would not return for “Scream 7” due to a scheduling conflict with “Wednesday” Season 2.

Tim Burton returns to produce and direct the “Beetlejuice” sequel from a script by “Wednesday” screenwriters Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. Executive producers include Brad Pitt, David Katzenberg, Laurence Senelick, Gough, Millar, Sara Desmond, Katterli Frauenfelder and Andrew Lary. Tommy Harper, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner serve as producers. Danny Elfman is set to compose the music for the film.

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” will haunt theaters starting Sept. 6. Watch the trailer below.

When Netflix's Wednesday premiered in late 2022, it took the streaming world by storm. Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) kidnapped our hearts and left us wanting more in just eight episodes. Just a few days after the series' release, Netflix’s official X account posted, "Wednesday now holds the record for most hours viewed in a week for an English-language series on Netflix, with 341.2 MILLION HOURS!" The streaming giant also revealed that the supernatural meets mystery series "is #1 in 83 countries, tying the record set by Stranger Things 4. "

By June 2023, the show became Netflix's most-watched English-language series ever, overtaking Stranger Things 4 for the top position with 251.2 million views in its first 91 days. The show was unquestionably a smashing success. Bloomberg reported in December 2023 that there are already talks of a spinoff featuring the Uncle Fester character played by Fred Armisen.

Ortega presented at the Primetime Emmy Awards in January 2024 and was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Wednesday racked up four Creative Arts Emmys for costumes, music, makeup and production design.

Here is everything you need to know about the mysterious Netflix series, including burning fan questions regarding Wednesday Season 2, which begins production in Ireland in April 2024 and has a projected 2025 release.

What happened in Wednesday Season 1?
Wednesday Addams "attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago—all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships of the strange and diverse student body."

The first season is full of twists and turns as Wednesday navigates Nevermore Academy and seeks to discover the mysterious creature slaughtering the people of Jericho while coming to grips with the antagonistic relationship between "outcasts'' and "normies."

The concluding episode, "Murder of Woes," answers questions that persisted throughout the first season. Ms. Marilyn Thornhill (Christina Ricci), is revealed to be Laurel Gates, the master of the Hyde—a terrifying class of monsters who appear as humans. This episode also reveals that Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan) is the Hyde that has been terrorizing the town, led by Gates/Thornhill's grooming.

Meanwhile, Gates/Thornhill murders Principal Weems, played by Game of Thrones alum Gwendoline Christie. Wednesday's roomie werewolf Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers) finally wolfs out and has an epic fight with Tyler in his Hyde form, ultimately beating him.

With the help of siren Bianca Barclay (Joy Sunday), Wednesday destroys the zombified Joseph Crackstone (William Houston), Laurel Gates' ancestor and the town's founder who despises the outcasts. Ultimately, Wednesday's likable, nerdy pal Eugene Ottinger (Moose Mostafa) uses his psychic powers to defeat Gates with a swarm of bees.

Season 1 ends with two cliffhangers: Tyler transforms into Hyde form while imprisoned on a truck, and Wednesday receives a note revealing she has a stalker.

What will Wednesday Season 2 be about?
From the Emmys red carpet in January 2024, Ortega told The Hollywood Reporter that there are big things to come.

"We're definitely leaning into a little more horror. Everything is bigger. It's a lot more action-packed," she said.

Then in an exclusive with Vanity Fair released in February, Ortega revealed a few more clues as she had been reading scripts at the time of the interview.

"But even reading scripts has been exciting, seeing all the new characters that are coming in. We're definitely expanding on the supernatural world," she said. Ortega also expanded on previous statements that each episode of Season 2 feels like a movie.

"In the first season we had episodes that really stood out visually, like the dance episode was a really big one for people, and that setting was very particular and it felt like Prom Night, a little bit, or Carrie. Every episode [of Season 2] that I’ve read so far is like that," she said. "It just stands out on its own as a very memorable scene or bit or setting, which I think is what I’m most excited for, because to pull that off for eight episodes is, I think, really incredible and really lucky."

In a June 2023 video appearance for the Netflix Tudum: A Global Fan Event in Brazil, cast members Sunday, Myers, and Doohan contemplated fan theories about what's coming next.

Something that teaser confirms: A new Addams family member will be introduced!

Co-showrunner Miles Millar shared in an earlier Variety interview that they “have a pretty clear runway of what we want to do in future seasons.”

“The series is really about a girl who sees the world in black and white, and learning there are shades of gray,” co-showrunner Al Gough tells TVLine. “I think like any relationship or any friendship, it can get complicated by other factors. It’s never going to be smooth sailing. And it’s really her learning to navigate the ups and downs of friendship.”

For example, with signs that Tyler may be freed from custody, fans could see more of Tyler and Wednesday, though not with the same romantic dynamics they once had. Tyler could have more free will now that Ms. Thornhill, a.k.a. Laurel Gates, has been eliminated. This could lead to him learning how to control his violent desires, hopefully becoming an aid to Wednesday again. Wishful thinking, but we can expect Wednesday and Thing to travel to hell and back to find out the identity of her stalker.

Ortega became involved in the writing for her character in the first season to the point of being "almost unprofessional," she told The Hollywood Reporter in early 2023. She will be a producer for Season 2.

Who's not returning for Wednesday Season 2?
Unfortunately, fans may not see Gwendoline Christie (Principal Weems) and Wednesday's therapist played by Riki Lindhome (Dr. Valerie Kinbott). Both characters were killed in Season 1 ... or were they?

"I feel like Larissa Weems would never be dominated by something as commonplace as death," Christie told TV Guide last year.

Furthermore, a cast announcement from Netflix revealed that three Season 1 series regulars will not be returning in that capacity next season: Percy Hynes White, Jamie McShane and Naomi J Ogawa.

McShane is expected to reprise his role as Sheriff Donovan Galpin as a guest star, presumably to wrap his character's storyline.

Who does Christina Ricci play in Wednesday Season 2?
Christina Ricci's return also is uncertain because, while her character is beaten, that doesn't mean she won't pursue retaliation. Also, fans don't actually see her character die.

In March 2023, Ricci told Entertainment Tonight that she didn't think she was allowed to say anything about a return, then added, "On my end, the door is open. She was so fun to play! It's always so fun to play a villain."

Who will be Nevermore's new principal?

Could Bianca be the new villain in Wednesday Season 2?
Bianca is introduced in Season 1 as the queen bee of Nevermore, Xavier's ex-girlfriend and Wednesday's adversary. However, as the season progresses, Bianca's connection with Wednesday evolves while we also get glimpses of Bianca's tumultuous past.

Her mother, Gabrielle, is also a siren who belongs to a "church" called Morning Song. Her mother sees Morning Song as a “personal development movement” but Bianca clearly does not see the cult that way.

Gabrielle's visit to see her daughter at school reveals that Bianca fled Morning Song and changed her name. She also implies that Bianca used her powers unfairly to get into the academy. She also tells her daughter that she married the Morning Song's leader, Gideon, much to Bianca's chagrin.

Bianca's mother insists that she leave the school and return to Morning Song, explaining that her siren song abilities are drying up. Because of that, the organization's recruitment numbers are low, and people are starting to ask questions. Gabrielle's ultimatum: Bianca must return to use her siren song or have her secret exposed about gaining admission to Nevermore Academy.

That context creates at least the potential for Bianca and Morning Song to emerge as the villains in Season 2.

Will Bianca leave Nevermore to return to the Morning Song cult?
Meanwhile, Sunday told Deadline it would be out of character for Bianca to willingly go, stating "Bianca doesn’t seem like someone who stands in the background at all. I think, even if she was forced to leave Nevermore, I don’t think she would really leave. I think she has a lot more strength and fortitude in her.”

Is Xavier going to be Wednesday’s new love interest?
If you’ve seen the first season, it’s safe to say that Wednesday clearly has a complicated relationship with Xavier. He has expressed many times throughout the show that he likes Wednesday, but the titular character picks Tyler.

After suspecting that Xavier is the Hyde, Wednesday gets him arrested by Sheriff Galpin, Tyler’s dad, which sours the already complex relationship. However, Wednesday redeems herself after wrongfully accusing Xavier, by taking an arrow to her shoulder for him. Fans last see him gifting Wednesday a cellphone, an item she’s never before owned.

In an MTV news video, Myers asks Ortega about what's next for the love triangle in Season 2, to which Ortega replies, "Now that Tyler's off the table, I feel like she's off of boys for a while. I feel like her and Xavier are just getting to a safe place. I think there's an opportunity there for a really sweet platonic relationship."

Will Xavier's dad appear in Wednesday Season 2?
Xavier’s famous dad, Vincent Thorpe, is discussed throughout Season 1 but never appears, even standing his son up on parents' weekend. It’ll be a missed opportunity not to introduce the mysterious Vincent Thorpe in Season 2. It will help fans understand Xavier’s brooding behavior and the context behind his poor relationship with his father.
