Trichomoniasis (Common STI) | Causes, Symptoms & Complications (Cancer), Diagnosis, Treatment

Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) that is caused by infection with the parasitic protozoa Trichomonas vaginalis. It is a relatively common STI, it actually being the most common non-viral STI. Infection with Trichomonas vaginalis can cause a wide variety of signs and symptoms, including vaginal discharge and vaginal odour. Trichomoniasis can also cause many complications, including reduced fertility, increased risk of other STIs and increased risk for certain cancers. In this lesson, we discuss the pathophysiology of Trichomoniasis, the signs and symptoms and why they occur, how it’s diagnosed and how it’s treated by clinicians.
