Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) is a growing global health concern. NAFLD is estimated to affect approximately 1 in 4 globally, with rates likely to rise substantially more with the increasing rates of obesity and diabetes. Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease is caused by insulin resistance (and is associated with related conditions like Metabolic Syndrome). It is known that Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease can suppress the activity of immune cells; however, new research has demonstrated that Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease is also associated with an increased risk of severe infections.
