Smart Car Drives Out Of Giant Snowpile

Surprisingly, the tiny Smart Cars have been around for for almost 25 years! We did not know though that. The original concept cars were created in 1994, though the idea had been in the works since 1982. Nicolas Hayek, the CEO of Swatch Watches, started designing it in a desire for a small stylish city car. For a while it was called the Swatchmobile. Eventually he teamed up with Volkswagen but that didn’t work out so he teamed up with Mercedes-Benz.

The first official Swatchmobile did not come out until 1998 with the smart City-Coupe. However, smart cars were not available in the United States until 2008 unless they were imported. It has become more popular in recent years, but it took until 2010 for them to really start to spread. It helps that they also introduced an electric version. The two models, the fortwo electric drive and fortwo cabrio electrive drive provided cheaper alternatives to other electric car manufactures including Tesla and Chevy. I would consider a smart car if I wasn’t afraid of being crushed by a truck or something.

The smart car in this video was completely covered by snow during a storm. We’re not sure how the driver got in the car but he manages to drive it out of the snow drift. Hilariously, as they attempt to drive around a suburban street they can’t get the snow on the windshield to fall off. Eventually, they have to stop and we imagine get out and knock off the rest of the snow. It may be hard to hear over the wind, but the guy filming giggles at his buddies all of the time.
