Water in all mystic systems means ‘spirit’. If received it may be represented as symbolic rivers, streams or waterfalls, even ‘rain’. But these symbols describe spiritual input, received from outside our own mind. But spirit can also be received that ‘rises’ from inner reserves, often represented symbolically as lakes or ponds, built up by us. This 'inner spirit' can be used during ‘purification’, which is either long and drawn out, or it may be rather dramatic and symbolically represented using a Fountain. If it is in the form of a fountain , it denotes a kundalini experience . In the majority of mystic movements there were techniques that enabled a person to conserve energy in these virtual ‘ponds’ or ‘lakes’ within their own bodies and then further techniques that then released the energy in a controlled way. The techniques were once there in the majority of eastern systems and the western systems shared them with the east, Judaism and the Kabbalah, for example.
