New images from NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter reveal a ‘dead’ robot lying on the Martian surface.

Launched in 2005, the orbiter’s mission is to investigate the presence of water on Mars over extended periods.

Despite previous findings indicating past water activity, uncertainties persist regarding its duration and potential to support life.

Equipped with high-resolution cameras, the orbiter has documented Mars’ dynamic environment, capturing phenomena such as shifting sand dunes and seasonal ice.

With over 18 years of operation, it ranks as the third longest-lasting spacecraft orbiting Mars, Supercar Blondie has reported.
