Therapeutic Sailing in North Idaho | DogSmile Adventures

Seth sits down with Jon Totten, owner of Dogsmile Adventures, a non-profit therapeutic sailing outfit, located on Lake Pend O’reille in North Idaho and Eric Nelson, owner of Nelson Family Canvas. Both men have a long history of sailing and share their passion for the activity here in North Idaho.

Jon tells the incredible story of bringing a derelict sailboat all the way from Antigua to North Idaho in the middle of the Pandemic guided by the vision of providing free sailing adventures for several underserved communities, such as; those with special needs, the elderly, Veterans, and First Responders. Jon used his love for sailing to help carry him away from addiction and alcoholism and selflessly looks to provide that same therapy for the community. Dogsmile Adventures has grown to three sailboats, numerous volunteers, and hundreds of outings a year since it’s inception in 2019.

Eric Nelson jumps in to tell his story of a life centered around a passion for sailing and learning the art of canvas work and boat maintenance.

This is an incredible episode which highlights one of the many unique facets of the North Idaho community and several of the numerous selfless people that call North Idaho home and tirelessly work to share their passion with the local community.
