A female fusa might fight off a male trying to mate with her because she needs to choose the strongest mate. By fighting, she can test if the male is strong and healthy. Also, she might not be ready to mate at that moment. Why do you think it’s important for animals to pick the best mate? Can you think of other animals that do something similar?
