The Symbolism of Altars, Incense and the Ara constellation

The altar is a symbol of sacrifice. A person who is of great importance spiritually sacrifices themselves, giving up a ‘normal life’ to devote themselves to the Great Work.

It is worth noting that Ara was originally 'a parched place', from the Latin ara [from which we get the words arid] and there are links with the symbolism of the Desert – see our video.

And the ancients saw a link between the constellation Aries, and that of Ara.

In effect, a male initiate of the Mysteries agrees to figuratively ‘sacrifice’ himself by giving up his chances of living a normal life in order to help humanity advance and the Great Work proceed.
But there again, there is always a remote chance you get to meet Hestia and the Vestal Virgins.
