Elizabeth Economy: U.S. Needs to Shift Its Strategy Toward Communist China

05/21/2024 Elizabeth Economy, Hargrove Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University: In the past 30 to 35 years, the relationship between the United States and Communist China was 90% engagement and 10% competition. Unfortunately, it is only now that we have gotten it right, with 90% competition and 10% engagement. Communist China is not interested in the kind of engagement we have pursued for the past 30-plus years. We have a new understanding of the real challenges posed by Communist China.
