"The more you wear the Omnia, the faster it will learn." Lionsgate has unveiled the official trailer for an indie tech horror thriller called Latency, from filmmaker James Croke. This is another of these intriguing A.I. horror films, more of a sci-fi thriller, though it also has some scary moments in it. Starring Sasha Luss (Anna) and Alexis Ren (The Enforcer), Latency marks the feature debut of writer / director James Croke. This sci-fi thriller follows a professional gamer battling acute agoraphobia, tasked with testing new gaming equipment powered by A.I. - capable of reading her mind. As they experiment with this new tech, the line between reality and Hana's subconscious begins to blur and she starts to wonder if the device is helping her or serving a more sinister force. A.I. serving a more sinister force? Yes, it definitely is (that sinister force being greed). This looks a bit derivative, but also seems like some fun set-in-one-room sci-fi horror to enjoy.

Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for James Croke's film Latency, direct from Lionsgate's YouTube:

In this sci-fi thriller, when Hana (Sasha Luss), a professional gamer who suffers from acute agoraphobia, is asked to trial sophisticated new gaming equipment which uses AI to interpret the electrical activity of her brain, she sees an opportunity to enhance her game. As Hana and her best friend Jen (Alexis Ren) experiment with this new technology, the line between reality and Hana’s subconscious quickly begins to blur and she starts to wonder if the device is helping her or serving a more sinister force. Latency is written and directed by the Australian indie filmmaker James Croke, making his feature directorial debut after a few other short films previously. Produced by Barry Brooker, Scott Clayton, Jordan Gertner, Gary A. Hirsch, & Wych Kaosayananda. This hasn't premiered at any film festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know. Lionsgate releases Croke's Latency in select US theaters starting June 14th, 2024 this summer. Curious?

Due to Hana's ongoing agoraphobia, she's spent her life mostly inside playing "game after game." So, it comes as no surprise she becomes a contender to test a new state-of-the-art software called Omnia.

What makes Omnia so special? It's supposed to calibrate with the user and decode patterns of their brain — or so it seems.

I’m excited to bring Jen to life and give her the performance she deserves.”

Gertner added: “We are thrilled to be working with Alexis. Her talent and passion for this project will certainly translate into an awesome performance as she brings the character of Jen to life in Latency.”

Ren’s most recent acting credit is the noir thriller The Enforcer, where she stars alongside Zolee Griggs, Antonio Banderas, Kate Bosworth, and 2 Chainz. Ren also wrapped production on a female-led drama thriller, Second Chance, in which she’ll star alongside Denise Richards and AnnaLynne McCord.

She is repped by Kris Heller at APA Agency.
