BEHAR: “So you have this new book out. And you know, I watch his show all the time. So I know that you have been — you’re a comic, but you basically go after Trump and Biden, you know, both of them. And a lot of people are not happy with you about that. So — and I’m — I —“
MAHER: “Well, not equally.
BEHAR: “Well, not because, you know, that Trump is more dangerous.”
MAHER: “Of course. I mean, I don’t think anybody was more outfront on that danger than I was.”
BEHAR: “That’s true.”
MAHER: “I was talking about how he was never going to give up power. Long ago when everybody was laughing at me —“
BEHAR: “Yeah.”
MAHER: “— and said, ‘You smoke too much pot.’ And he said, ‘I smoke just the right amount of pot,’ because —“ (Laughter)
BEHAR: “You also —“ [crosstalk]
MAHER: “You know, I was using the term slow moving coup before he was elected the first that’s fine.”
BEHAR: “Exactly. That’s right.”
MAHER: “I said this guy is never going to concede power. It’s impossible to imagine him going, ‘Oh, I lost.”
HOSTIN: “Yeah, can’t do it.”
MAHER: “He just — that’s just not in his nature.”
BEHAR: “So but I’m — I’m nervous about saying anything against Biden, because I feel you know, not that I have so much power and you have some more than — than I do, obviously.”
MAHER: “Oh, I don’t know about that.”
BEHAR: “But are you afraid that you might, you know, influence people who are on the fence?”
MAHER: “I think you lose all credibility. I do. My bond with my audience has always been I don’t pull a punch.”
BEHAR: “Yeah.”
MAHER: “My bond with my audience is you not going to like everything I say —“
BEHAR: “Yeah.”
MAHER: “— but you know I’m saying what I really think is true.”
BEHAR: “Right?”
MAHER: “That’s — and that’s it.” (Cheering and Applause) Biden just presents as old. It’s not really fair.”
BEHAR: “No.”
MAHER: “Because he’s almost the same age — Trump is almost the same age as him.”
BEHAR: “Yeah, I know.”
MAHER: “But Trump doesn’t present that way. You know, you look at somebody right away. You can kind of just sum them up. I mean, we are not young, but we don’t present as old.”
BEHAR: “Yeah.”
MAHER: “Biden does. I saw him yesterday making that speech.”
BEHAR: “Yeah.”
MAHER: “I mean, I’m sorry, he’s cadaver like.”
BEHAR: “But his brain is good. He’s still great.”
MAHER: “Well, here’s what I said, like when I came back after the strike in September, I said he should get out, because he’s just lost the faith people. It’s not fair. He’s actually done a pretty good job.”
BEHAR: “Yeah.”
MAHER: “But I said he’s going to be Ruth Bader Biden, it’s the term I used, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, she stayed too long at the fair.”
HOSTIN: “Yeah.”
BEHAR: “Yeah.”
MAHER: “Remember Obama had her over to the White House like in 2013 to hint, you know, ‘Hey, spend more time with the grandkids. Would that not be a good idea, Ruth?’ And she didn’t take the hint, and she was not in good health and she stayed too long. And she ruined her legacy and got the Supreme Court —“
BEHAR: “Mm-hmm.”
MAHER: “— now to be a pretty right-wing organization.”
BEHAR: “Right.”
MAHER: “I said, Biden shouldn’t do that. But you know, ego — he is — he’s Dracula. He has crossed oceans of time to be here.”
HOSTIN: “Yeah.”
MAHER: “And he’s not going to give it up now.”
