Northern India, including its capital Delhi, is reelingunder a fierce heatwave with temperatures soaring above 45C over the weekend.

Authorities have closed some schools and the centralbank has warned the heat could pose a risk to food inflation.

The searing temperatures come as India holds itsgeneral election, the results of which will be declared on 4 June.

However, the extreme weather is disrupting pollsturnout, with numbers impacted and electionauthorities extending the voting window.
