People like to talk about corruption in boxing, but they turn a blind eye to corruption in MMA. In boxing, you have the Ali Act, which has some protection for the athletes. Coercive contracts are illegal in boxing, and promoters don't own the titles. These protections give the athletes the ability to sue if there is foul play. There are zero protections for MMA athletes. The corruption is built right into the business model.

In MMA, the promoter controls the title, the rankings, and the ascension to the title. On top of that, promotions like the UFC make the athletes sign off on the ability to sue. If you have a contract dispute with them, you have to go to arbitrary court and plead your case to their judge. No one ever wins in that scenario.
