It will "shake Iranian politics" when Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi passes away. The Economist says it will force the regime to quickly find a new president during a trying time.
"To counter Iran, the United States, Israel, and Saudi Arabia, among others, are thinking about strengthening their security ties. Tightening US sanctions could exacerbate the already dire state of the economy. Furthermore, the analysts point out that Mr. Raisi's passing could destabilize Iran's impending struggle by eliminating one of the two front-runners for Mr. Khamenei's position.
According to the article, Mother Nature might be to blame. But in Iranian politics, "nothing is ever as it seems," and "many Iranians have begun to speculate about more nefarious explanations."
