Boeing whistleblower fears for safety after colleagues’ sudden deaths

Santiago Paredes, the latest Spirit AeroSystems whistleblower, has dismissed conspiracy theories about the deaths of two other whistleblowers but remains cautious about his own safety.

Paredes, 40, spoke to The Independent before attending a memorial for his friend and fellow whistleblower Joshua Dean, who died at 45 from a sudden illness on April 30.

This followed the suicide of another whistleblower, John Barnett, in March. Paredes believes these deaths were not due to foul play but admits to being vigilant for his own safety.

Having worked as an inspector and team leader at Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems for over a decade, Paredes left in 2022 after repeatedly raising quality control issues, which led to his demotion.

Concerns about the safety of Boeing’s 737 Max 9 planes escalated after a door plug incident during an Alaska Airlines flight in January, prompting the FAA to ground the planes and launch an investigation.

Multiple whistleblowers have since come forward with their experiences, the Independent has reported.
